I am constantly amazed at the power of God and how he intercedes with me at just the right time — for all the right reasons.
I love my roles of husband and father. I wouldn’t trade them for ANYTHING. But here’s the thing. I’m soon-to-be fifty-one years old. I want to do so much more with the rest of my life than just go to work each day.
I want to write. I want to speak to groups of kids and adults. I want to encourage others. I want others to know the never-ending love of God.
I want people to know they are so important to God and the world. I want to let people know just how powerful words can be.
These thoughts tug at my heart every day.
And today, God spoke to me in a big way. As I was searching the Amazon.com site, He led me to this daily devotion from Joel Osteen’s book Your Best Life Begins Each Morning: Devotions to Start Every Day of the Year. From the very little bit I have read, I am encouraged and must get a copy of this book!
Here’s the daily devotion for January 1:
This is God speaking to me. I am especially connecting with the second paragraph (see the text I underlined in red) where Osteen says this about my dreams: “…dare to unpack them today and ask God to rekindle them…It’s time to enlarge your vision.” YES! It is time.
It is the biggest and toughest thing I struggle with every day. I want my dreams to become reality, but I seem to run out of time and energy at the end of the day. I wake up each morning between 4:30 and 5:00 a.m. It takes me forty minutes to get to work. I work from 8-5 Monday through Friday. I drive another forty minutes to get home. When I’m home, there are always projects that need to be tended to. I’m not complaining. I’m so incredibly blessed to have what I have and do what I do. Really. I am.
But…
Somehow I need to find some time to work on my ‘dream’. I have to be able to carve out a chunk of time each day so that I can move forward with my writing and blogging and public speaking. I am so frustrated by all of this. Can you tell?!
